This residence is located on a beautiful picturesque Tamar River frontage site in Legana, just a short drive from the city of Launceston. This site was chosen as a peaceful and tranquil setting for a retired American couple.

The brief for this residence called for complete privacy from the streetscape and maximum exposure to the river front. The clients love and passion for mid century architecture, particularly Richard Neutra was influential. A site visit to Richard’s own named street in Silver Lake, California provided valuable clarity for this project.

Set amongst the rural landscape, blade walls of imported polished white block work frames the views and defines the internal spaces within the residence. These blades cut through the spaces of the home providing the internal / external transition.  The feature timber facade adds materiality, texture and tones, creating a warmth during the winter months and the white floating roof defines the footprint of the considerable sized residence.

The outcome for this residence transcribes a simple yet neutral pallet within and without. The orientation maximising the bespoke glazing systems, focusing the attention upon the specific river frontage and to the landscaped continuum, providing opportunity for repose in privacy.
